I’ve mentioned A24’s batting average (SPORT metaphor!) here before. It’s good. Like… shit. I probably should have looked up good batting averages before I started this. Nonetheless! Let’s just say it is the Mighty Casey of studios. They are constantly…Shit again. Casey struck out. Oh, I know! It’s the Michael Jordan of… You know what? … More It Comes at Night (2017) – REVIEW
At this point, who hasn’t heard of the craziness that got The Evil Within to horror fans’ screens? A meth-addled “old money” heir. A Hollywood mansion turned into a studio. A 12+ year post-production period. All to get Andrew Getty’s nightmare vision to the screen. A feat that he didn’t quite realize before he died. Luckily … More The Evil Within (2017) – REVIEW
The name Noomi Rapace holds a certain gravitas even for me, someone who’s only seen two of her films. For whatever reason, I think of her as an accomplished, top-tier actor. And, she may well be. But the strange thing is this: why do I think that? Sure, she was good in Prometheus, … More Rupture (2017) – REVIEW
It’s been nigh on 26 years (okay, 2 years. but i’m keeping the release year at 2017) since I first heard tell of a little film called February. It was getting some positive festival buzz, so I put it in my list of films to check out when I could. I was unable to attend … More The Blackcoat’s Daughter (2017) – REVIEW
When Jordan Peele of “Key and Peele” fame announced he was taking on a directing project and that project was the horror feature, Get Out, my interest was piqued. The guy is funny and seems like a more than capable creative type. And by his account, he’s a horror fan. Besides, he has access to funding and … More Get Out (2017) – REVIEW
I knew 2 things about The Monster going into it. 1. It featured a monster of some sort. And 2. It had a bit of positive buzz on Twitter. I was eager to see it knowing that A24 was behind it (i guess that’s 3 things) because they put out some decent stuff. When it … More The Monster (2016) – REVIEW
“Have you seen Things?” A question that started the gears in motion that (maybe unsurprisingly) ended with me watching Things. Board game night at Wolfman‘s fell through, so he asked me the question. I hadn’t. Neither had he. But he did just buy a copy and he was free, so we put on our footie … More Things (1989) – REVIEW
Train to Busan has gotten quite a bit of buzz. I was skeptical of course because another zombie film wedged into the oversaturated zombie field seems like it would just be white noise. Unless it was mind-blowing. Then I could understand the hype. But a lot of people whose opinions I respect gave it a … More Train to Busan (2016) – REVIEW
I’m not a huge fan of the Saw films. I saw the first one and the second one. I may have seen another one, but I’m not sure which. They are fine for a single viewing. Especially the first one. So, when I saw that Darren Bousman – director of Saws 2, 3, and … More Abattoir (2016) – REVIEW
Possession movies are not necessarily my thing. Sure, there are some good ones – The Exorcist, The Last Exorcism, etc. – but they just don’t terrify me. Maybe it’s because I was raised by an agnostic mother who prays to her brothers (living) when something goes wrong, and a father who rejected his Catholic upbringing … More The Possession Experiment (2016) – REVIEW
