Sequence Break (2017) – REVIEW

July 28, 2017

I’m really cranking these Fantasia Int’l Film Fest reviews out! (by “cranking”, i mean that i’m way behind and scrambling to get movies watched and reviews written while also having a job and a family. what i’m saying is this: you’re welcome) Next up, Sequence Break! Let’s get into it, shall we?   Oz (Os?) … More Sequence Break (2017) – REVIEW

Replace (2017) – REVIEW

July 20, 2017

Next up in my Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2017 coverage lineup is Replace from German-born director, Norbert Keil. (i know “German-born” doesn’t really convey any relevant info, but it beefs this intro up a bit) Let’s get into it, shall we?   Kira spends the night at her new boyfriend’s place and wakes up alone. … More Replace (2017) – REVIEW

Game of Death (2017) – REVIEW

July 16, 2017

Once again, I am covering the Fantasia International Film Festival from the lovely comfort and confines of my own home. I honestly love that Fantasia allows remote coverage. It’s great for people like me. People who are not allowed in Canada. For my first review, I’m going with directors, Sebastien Landry and Laurence Morais-Legace’s Game … More Game of Death (2017) – REVIEW

Another Evil (2016) – REVIEW

August 8, 2016

My latest/last Fantasia (International Film Fest) review for 2016 is for Another Evil. The only thing I knew about it was that it was directed by Carson Mell, a guy who wrote/directed some episodes of “Silicon Valley”. So, obviously, I was excited. I guess that’s not the only thing I knew because for some reason … More Another Evil (2016) – REVIEW

Therapy (2016) – REVIEW

August 5, 2016

French. Found footage. Fantasia (International Film Fest 2016). That’s what I knew about Therapy going into it. Modern French horror can be pretty damn good. (see: Frontier(s), A L’interieur, Martyrs, Ils, Dans ma Peau, etc.) Granted, I either haven’t been attuned to the good stuff coming out of France in the last few years, or … More Therapy (2016) – REVIEW

Goran (2016) – REVIEW

August 4, 2016

One of the great things about horror is that I end up watching films from all over the world. I will eagerly watch a story told from a perspective (cultural, aesthetic, etc) different from my own, even if that story is old and familiar. I can’t imagine watching a retelling of You’ve Got Mail just … More Goran (2016) – REVIEW

I am Not a Serial Killer (2016) – REVIEW

August 3, 2016

When I saw that Billy O’Brien had a film at Fantasia (International Film Fest) 2016, I was pretty excited. He’s shown that he’s creative and capable of bringing the scares before. You may remember my recent review of his film, The Hybrid. The TL;DR version is: I liked it. And I thought it had some … More I am Not a Serial Killer (2016) – REVIEW

Creepy (2016) – REVIEW

August 3, 2016

Kiyoshi Kurosawa (how much pressure on a filmmaker is THAT name?!) is a horror heavy-hitter with cult favorites Pulse and The Cure. (maybe they’re just regular favs in Japan. but here, i call them cult) I even liked his strange, meandering Bright Future. So, when I saw that Kurosawa would be returning to the horror … More Creepy (2016) – REVIEW

Red Christmas (2016) – REVIEW

July 30, 2016

Next up in my Fantasia International Film Fest 2016 review series is Red Christmas. Another film that I was unaware of until I saw the trailer on the Fantasia Fest site. It looked pretty crazy and like it had plenty of high-pressure blood fountains. So, I was convinced. (natch)  It’s an Australian film that stars … More Red Christmas (2016) – REVIEW

We Go On (2016) – REVIEW

July 28, 2016

I saw Yellowbrickroad as part of the Bloody Disgusting Selects partnership with AMC Theaters (or whatever it was). I mention it because directors Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton also wrote and directed We Go On, which showed at Fantasia Int’l Film Fest 2016. The former film was competently made but failed to produce the effects … More We Go On (2016) – REVIEW

No Real Danger is a blog of my ramblings on the films that I watch/have watched/want to watch/etc. I will typically post (with irregular regularity) comma and parenthetical filled short-form entries. I plan to keep things positive, but I might grumble about something every once in a while. Horror is my “jam” but I may occasionally post about a non-horror movie. Similarly, I usually watch independent movies but not exclusively. Hell, I might even post about music. Who knows?
