“Have you seen Things?” A question that started the gears in motion that (maybe unsurprisingly) ended with me watching Things. Board game night at Wolfman‘s fell through, so he asked me the question. I hadn’t. Neither had he. But he did just buy a copy and he was free, so we put on our footie … More Things (1989) – REVIEW
My latest/last Fantasia (International Film Fest) review for 2016 is for Another Evil. The only thing I knew about it was that it was directed by Carson Mell, a guy who wrote/directed some episodes of “Silicon Valley”. So, obviously, I was excited. I guess that’s not the only thing I knew because for some reason … More Another Evil (2016) – REVIEW
I saw Joe Begos’s Almost Human here in Chicago a couple of years ago when he and star/editor Josh Ethier were touring with it. It was a refreshing throwback to the sci-fi horror films of the 80s. It featured some great practical effects, some crazy plot elements (in a good way), and some real fear … More The Mind’s Eye (2016) – REVIEW
As with a surprising number of the films that I review here at NoRealDanger, The Hybrid (aka: Scintilla, which is a way better title if you’re asking me) was completely unknown to me until Netflix told me that I’d likely rate it over 4 stars. That type of estimate intrigues me every time. How have I … More The Hybrid (2016) – REVIEW
They Look Like People showed here in Chicago as part of the 2015 CIFF programming. I entertained thoughts of catching it but it was showing far away at a theater situated in an area that has no reasonably priced parking (can I write that off on my taxes?) and I didn’t have anyone to go … More They Look Like People (2015) – REVIEW
Next up in my wildly popular Video Nasties series is The Witch Who Came from the Sea. Technically, it’s not one of the core video nasties that were prosecuted as brain poison (or whatever), but it was one of the over 70 films brought before a committee committed (hmm, is that why they … More The Witch Who Came from the Sea (1976) – VIDEO NASTIES
At some point in the recent past, I was down a Sasquatch films rabbit hole online. I was surprised to find that there is no shortage of films about our beloved North American skunk ape. I’ve forgotten why I was down this particular rabbit hole. I’m not a particularly huge fan of Bigfoot … More Exists (2014) – REVIEW
I had an opportunity to see an advanced screening of Green Room from Blue Ruin director, Jeremy Saulnier, last night. So, obviously, I went. (obvious because you saw the title of this review. and because what else am i going to do on a thursday night?) Blue Ruin was great. It was a tense revenge thriller … More REVIEW – Green Room (2016)
Today’s entry is the criminally underappreciated (hence, the category) Red White & Blue [sic]. This is another one that I found on a some list of little known genre films that deserve some attention. And another one that I would hesitate to call straight-up horror. (but who cares, right?) It’s certainly a bleak (SO BLEAK), … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Red White & Blue (2010)
I watch a fair number of horror films. I try to stay up on (mostly independent) new releases and upcoming projects, but I can’t watch everything. So, in an effort to maximize the efficiency of my time spent watching horror films, I often look to the recommendations of friends/twitter “friends”/respected horror critics. When I … More REVIEW – Asylum Blackout (2011)
