Today’s entry is the criminally underappreciated (hence, the category) Red White & Blue [sic]. This is another one that I found on a some list of little known genre films that deserve some attention. And another one that I would hesitate to call straight-up horror. (but who cares, right?) It’s certainly a bleak (SO BLEAK), … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Red White & Blue (2010)
I watch a fair number of horror films. I try to stay up on (mostly independent) new releases and upcoming projects, but I can’t watch everything. So, in an effort to maximize the efficiency of my time spent watching horror films, I often look to the recommendations of friends/twitter “friends”/respected horror critics. When I … More REVIEW – Asylum Blackout (2011)
Remember when I reviewed Ritual and mentioned that I thought that movie gave viewers a glimpse into the potential of its director, Mickey Keating? Well, to test this hypothesis (i’m a science teacher), I checked out Pod, his (also) low-budget follow-up to Ritual. You’ll recall (of course) that I didn’t LOVE Ritual, but I did like … More REVIEW – Pod (2015)
It may seem odd that I’m reviewing Rest Stop right now since it’s a decade old. Should it be in my “underappreciated” category? Maybe. But I hesitate to label it that because it’s not super great (that’s not the final cut by the way. keep reading please). I’m only reviewing it because it’s … More REVIEW – Rest Stop (2006)
I wasn’t planning on writing about Scott Schirmer’s Found. It’s been out for a while. It is a relatively unknown film. And, frankly, it’s not especially great. But, after watching it, I haven’t stopped thinking about it for the past few nights. What I keep coming back to are scenes or ideas in the film … More Found (2012) – REVIEW
A while back, I saw the trailer for Summer of Blood. It looked like a funny, goofy vampire movie. It seemed like director/writer/star, Onur Tukel, would be playing a parody of Tim Heidecker’s character from The Comedy – an unambitious New Yorker. And he would be a vampire. My interest was piqued. I put it … More REVIEW – Summer of Blood (2014)
Let’s get that question mark up there out of the way, shall we. IMDB, which I’ve long considered the film info bible, has two entries for The Houses October Built. One is listed as a 2011 film and one a 2014 film. Both have the same stars, director, writers, and whatnot. 2011 has an additional … More The Houses October Built (2014?)- REVIEW
After reading The Wolfman’s awesome list of Netflix horror picks, I decided to make a point of watching the two films that I hadn’t seen yet – Honeymoon and The Houses October Built. I may not trust him personally (why’s he always hiding his face?), but I do trust that guy’s film recs. I watched … More Honeymoon (2014) – REVIEW
The Rasmussen Brothers, Michael and Shawn, are best known for writing John Carpenter’s The Ward – a film that has been collecting virtual dust in my Netflix queue for a very long time. (I’ll get around to it…eventually.) Descriptions for The Ward mention a ghost. Apparently, ghost stories are the Rasmussen’s forte (which, I’m told … More REVIEW – The Inhabitants (2015)
Ritual is a relationship drama tucked into a occult sacrifice horror/thriller. Its director, Mickey Keating, has become something of a horror media darling (nailed it!) since the premiere of his film, Darling, at Fantastic Fest 2015. This earlier film offers a glimpse into the talent that would go on to make Darling (which, I have … More Ritual (2013) – REVIEW
