Next up in my (unintentional) review series of French films showing at Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2018 is “Crisis Jung”. Why is it in quotation marks instead of italics, you ask? Because it’s episodic. Perhaps it’s a show, though I have no idea what kind of programming block it would fit into. I guess I’d … More Crisis Jung (2018) – REVIEW – Fantasia 2018
Next up in my Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2017 coverage lineup is Replace from German-born director, Norbert Keil. (i know “German-born” doesn’t really convey any relevant info, but it beefs this intro up a bit) Let’s get into it, shall we? Kira spends the night at her new boyfriend’s place and wakes up alone. … More Replace (2017) – REVIEW
It’s been nigh on 26 years (okay, 2 years. but i’m keeping the release year at 2017) since I first heard tell of a little film called February. It was getting some positive festival buzz, so I put it in my list of films to check out when I could. I was unable to attend … More The Blackcoat’s Daughter (2017) – REVIEW
Here’s what I know about Dutch horror films – not much. Isn’t the guy who directed The Human Centipede (and its sequels) Dutch? Wait – does “Dutch” mean “from Holland”? Or is it Netherlander? Or Hollandaise? Yikes. I am not the global citizen I like to think I am. Suffice it to say, I’m … More The Windmill (2016) – REVIEW
As I’ve mentioned before, Rob Zombie’s films have mixed appeal for me. I enjoyed House of 1000 Corpses for the most part, I liked The Devil’s Rejects quite a bit, I loved The Lords of Salem, and I (mostly) hated his Halloween interpretations. His gritty 70s aesthetic is unique and his love of horror is … More 31 (2016) – REVIEW
I’d heard / read some decent things about the zombie-comedy, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse [sic], when it came out. (i won’t use the term zom-com no matter how much time I’m trying to save) I figured I’d check it out eventually, but I didn’t put it high on my priorities list. Sure, it looked … More Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015) – REVIEW
The trailer for Baskin made the social media rounds a while back (about a year ago). It looked pretty grimy and bloody. Right up my alley. I put it in my list of films to keep on my radar but never saw it. Did it come to Chicago? Maybe. But if it did, I certainly … More REVIEW – Baskin (2015)
If you’ve heard of Lake Nowhere, then you might be a bit surprised to see it here at NoRealDanger. “What are you doing reviewing a short film, idiot?!” you may be screaming at your screen. To that I say, “Whoa. Calm down. Take some deep breaths. Maybe have a cup of chamomile.” It’s true that … More REVIEW – Lake Nowhere (2015)
I saw Joe Begos’s Almost Human here in Chicago a couple of years ago when he and star/editor Josh Ethier were touring with it. It was a refreshing throwback to the sci-fi horror films of the 80s. It featured some great practical effects, some crazy plot elements (in a good way), and some real fear … More The Mind’s Eye (2016) – REVIEW
Next up in my Fantasia International Film Fest 2016 review series is Red Christmas. Another film that I was unaware of until I saw the trailer on the Fantasia Fest site. It looked pretty crazy and like it had plenty of high-pressure blood fountains. So, I was convinced. (natch) It’s an Australian film that stars … More Red Christmas (2016) – REVIEW
