Creepy (2016) – REVIEW

August 3, 2016

Kiyoshi Kurosawa (how much pressure on a filmmaker is THAT name?!) is a horror heavy-hitter with cult favorites Pulse and The Cure. (maybe they’re just regular favs in Japan. but here, i call them cult) I even liked his strange, meandering Bright Future. So, when I saw that Kurosawa would be returning to the horror … More Creepy (2016) – REVIEW

Hannibal (TV) – REVIEW

June 13, 2016

I’ve been putting off writing about “Hannibal” for too long. Not just because I don’t typically write about television. In the case of “Hannibal”, I will gladly make an exception. No, I’ve been putting it off because I want to do it justice. I want to convey the reasons that I would write about … More Hannibal (TV) – REVIEW

Hush (2016) – REVIEW

May 16, 2016

Admittedly, I knew nothing about Hush – not even that it was a film at all – when I saw it show up on Netflix. But the cover art (are we still calling it ‘cover art’?) looked pretty cool with it’s creepy masked guy. So I put it in my queue. Soon after its … More Hush (2016) – REVIEW

REVIEW – August Underground (2001)

April 25, 2016

I was once surveyed about films and movie rentals for Facets in Chicago. After I explained what I meant by “genre film” to the two college-aged kids doing the interviewing, they asked me why I enjoy those types of films. I gave them my (now famous) “no real danger” explanation. They pressed further, asking … More REVIEW – August Underground (2001)

REVIEW – Tesis (1996)

November 17, 2015

AKA – Thesis   Tesis is another in a long line of movies that I get in the mail and wonder, “What the hell is this?” This phenomenon is a product of late night, bleary-eyed expeditions through lists of underrated/underappreciated/little-known/foreign/etc. genre films. It makes getting the mail all the more exciting. (by that, i mean, … More REVIEW – Tesis (1996)

Found (2012) – REVIEW

October 23, 2015

I wasn’t planning on writing about Scott Schirmer’s Found. It’s been out for a while. It is a relatively unknown film. And, frankly, it’s not especially great. But, after watching it, I haven’t stopped thinking about it for the past few nights. What I keep coming back to are scenes or ideas in the film … More Found (2012) – REVIEW

No Real Danger is a blog of my ramblings on the films that I watch/have watched/want to watch/etc. I will typically post (with irregular regularity) comma and parenthetical filled short-form entries. I plan to keep things positive, but I might grumble about something every once in a while. Horror is my “jam” but I may occasionally post about a non-horror movie. Similarly, I usually watch independent movies but not exclusively. Hell, I might even post about music. Who knows?
