Cold Skin (2018) – REVIEW – Fantasia 2018

July 16, 2018

When I’m covering festivals, I always engage in bit of internal debate over whether my intros should consist of my typical rambling blather or a more terse, straight to the point version for brevity’s sake. I’ve come down on the side of brevity more often than not because I’m lazy. Sorry if you came here … More Cold Skin (2018) – REVIEW – Fantasia 2018

The Night Eats the World (2018) – REVIEW

July 13, 2018

First up in my Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2018 review series is The Night Eats the World (aka: La Nuit a Devore le Monde). It’s a French language zombie film  set in France. Paris or a near-Paris suburb maybe.  At least I think it is. It’s mostly set in a single apartment building. Let’s get … More The Night Eats the World (2018) – REVIEW

Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2018

July 13, 2018

I once again have the honor of covering Fantasia Int’l Film Festival remotely. There are a lot of exciting U.S. and foreign films showing at the fest (some premiering there) – Xavier Gens latest, Cold Skin; the Korean haunter, Satan’s Slaves; French zombies in The Night Eats the World; black metal hijinx in Heavy Trip; … More Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2018

Cold Hell (2017) – REVIEW

May 31, 2018

If you’re anything like me, you have probably heard some positive buzz about  the Austrian (German?) cat-and-mouse film, Cold Hell. It made some waves on the festival circuit before being added as an exclusive to Shudder’s streaming features lineup. So, if you want to stream this one (legally of course) you gotta… A) get that … More Cold Hell (2017) – REVIEW

Ghost Stories (2018) – Review

April 20, 2018

As we all know, anthology horror can be an extremely mixed bag. A single anthology can feature an amazing, top-tier short right alongside a worthless turd. A couple come to mind, but I’m not here to shit on specific titles. (looks like i need to put the breaks on my scatological references too! 2 refs … More Ghost Stories (2018) – Review

Dark Waters (1993) – REVIEW

March 6, 2018

Some of you were probably wondering what happened to good ol’ Jason D. Well, wonder no more! I’m back. What’s that? You didn’t notice I was gone. And you don’t think I’m good? Well, shit. Either way, it’s been too long but I’m back with another timely review for 1993’s Dark Waters. And by ‘timely’, … More Dark Waters (1993) – REVIEW

Poor Agnes (2017) – REVIEW

November 6, 2017

Poor Agnes played here in Chicago at the Cinepocalypse Film Fest. Admittedly, I’ve never heard of director, Navin Ramaswaran before. Maybe because he hasn’t made a straight-up horror feature before (as far as I can tell). Whatever the reason, I had zero expectations going into Poor Agnes. I pretty much knew it was playing the … More Poor Agnes (2017) – REVIEW

Split (2016) – REVIEW

November 3, 2017

Shyamalan has given us some great films and some turds. So with each new film, we roll the dice (or we give up and ignore his output altogether). When Split hit theaters, I figured I’d check it out eventually but I was in no big rush to see it. Sure, I liked his last film, … More Split (2016) – REVIEW

Tragedy Girls – REVIEW

October 20, 2017

My final, final review from the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival this year is for Tragedy Girls. It’s been fun and I hope to cover the fest next year. Let’s get into it, shall we?   McKayla and Sadie are hellbent on building their social media brand by any means necessary. Their brand is murder and … More Tragedy Girls – REVIEW

Clementina (2017) – REVIEW

October 20, 2017

My penultimate review from my remote coverage of the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival is for Clementina, a film from Argentina by Jimena Monteoliva. I mention her, not because I expect you to know her work offhand, but because she shows the potential to be someone whose work you will know offhand. Let’s get into it, … More Clementina (2017) – REVIEW

No Real Danger is a blog of my ramblings on the films that I watch/have watched/want to watch/etc. I will typically post (with irregular regularity) comma and parenthetical filled short-form entries. I plan to keep things positive, but I might grumble about something every once in a while. Horror is my “jam” but I may occasionally post about a non-horror movie. Similarly, I usually watch independent movies but not exclusively. Hell, I might even post about music. Who knows?
