UNDERAPPRECIATED – Anguish (1987)

September 21, 2015

Bigas Luna’s Anguish seems to have slipped under the radar for a lot of horror fans. I haven’t come across a Chicago screening of the film or even a request for one on social media. I’ve recommended it to several people but haven’t talked to anyone who has actually seen it. Maybe because it was a Spanish … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Anguish (1987)

Eaten Alive (1976) – VIDEO NASTIES – REVIEW

September 20, 2015

Tobe Hooper followed up The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (and, yes, that is how you write that title) with the sleazy proto-slasher Eaten Alive (aka Death Trap/Starlight Slaughter/Horror Hotel). The film was written by Hooper’s TCSM co-writer, Kim Henkel (who I once thought was a woman … More Eaten Alive (1976) – VIDEO NASTIES – REVIEW

UNDERAPPRECIATED – Killing Spree (1987)

September 18, 2015

If you know who Tim Ritter is, you most likely know him as the director of the video store horror shelf staple, Truth or Dare?: A Critical Madness. In the late 80s, the movie really set the junior high schools (now called middle schools) abuzz with whispers of late night cable viewings of the crazy … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Killing Spree (1987)

The Pack (2015) – REVIEW

September 16, 2015

The Pack is an Australian man-vs-nature/seige film from director, Nick Robertson. According to IMDB, this is Robertson’s first feature film. As such, it is a solid, tension packed (PACKed!) little film with decent turns from a spare cast. I say, “as such”, because it is not without its problems. Am I making assumptions about the … More The Pack (2015) – REVIEW

RAMBLING – Movie Nostalgia

September 15, 2015

For all of my talk of “rambling” about horror movies, I’ve done very little of that since I started this site a little over a week ago. Well, my friends (and people who accidentally clicked here), that’s all about to change! STRAP IN! I’m going to kick off my ramblings with a few movies that have a … More RAMBLING – Movie Nostalgia

REVIEW – Scarewaves (2015)

September 14, 2015

Scarewaves is an anthology film from ultra-low budget DIY filmmaker, Henrique Couto. I saw the Chicago premiere of the film at Chicago Filmmakers – another event organized by the Jason Coffman. Henrique (pronounced: Henrick) was on hand to introduce the film … More REVIEW – Scarewaves (2015)

Dude Bro Party Massacre III (2015) – REVIEW

September 11, 2015

I saw Dude Bro Party Massacre III at Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival in Rosemont. Now, before we get too far into this thing – If you saw the name of this movie and thought, “What kind of shitty name is that?!”, just move along. … More Dude Bro Party Massacre III (2015) – REVIEW

Cub (2014) – REVIEW

September 10, 2015

I finally got around to seeing Cub (aka Welp – Belgium 2014). I say “finally”, because I’ve been hearing good things about it since it hit the U.S. festival circuit. Hell, Jay H even has a review of it at Bloody Disgusting. So, it’s been on my “to watch” list for a while. All I … More Cub (2014) – REVIEW

Splinter (2008) – REVIEW

September 8, 2015

I’ve seen a lot of “the best horror films you’ve never seen” lists on genre film sites and behind very tempting clickbait links (presumably – I’m not an idiot!). In fact, these lists are the main reason that I wonder “what the damn fuck is this?” when I open most of my DVD envelopes from … More Splinter (2008) – REVIEW

Bloodsucking Bastards (2015) – REVIEW

September 5, 2015

I inadvertently attended the Chicago premiere of Bloodsucking Bastards at Facets on 9/4/15. I had no idea that the director, the producer, and the writer would be there introducing the film and doing a Q & A afterwards. (more on them later) I guess I’m lucky like that. I met Jay there a few minutes before … More Bloodsucking Bastards (2015) – REVIEW

No Real Danger is a blog of my ramblings on the films that I watch/have watched/want to watch/etc. I will typically post (with irregular regularity) comma and parenthetical filled short-form entries. I plan to keep things positive, but I might grumble about something every once in a while. Horror is my “jam” but I may occasionally post about a non-horror movie. Similarly, I usually watch independent movies but not exclusively. Hell, I might even post about music. Who knows?
