We Go On (2016) – REVIEW

July 28, 2016

I saw Yellowbrickroad as part of the Bloody Disgusting Selects partnership with AMC Theaters (or whatever it was). I mention it because directors Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton also wrote and directed We Go On, which showed at Fantasia Int’l Film Fest 2016. The former film was competently made but failed to produce the effects … More We Go On (2016) – REVIEW

Shelley (2016) – REVIEW

July 23, 2016

Next up in my Fantasia International Film Fest 2016 review spree – Shelley from director, Ali Abbasi. (i don’t know why i’m compelled to type the entire official Fantasia 2016 title. i guess i imagine that i have readers that aren’t familiar w/ it and they would be like, ‘they remade Disney’s Fantasia!?’, if i … More Shelley (2016) – REVIEW

Tank 432 (2016) – REVIEW

July 23, 2016

As is often the case here at NRD, it all started with a trailer. I saw the trailer for the Ben Wheatley-produced Tank 432 (aka: Belly of the Bulldog) way back in May. I’m a fan of Wheatley’s brand of indie art house horror/weirdness for the most part (as you may have read), and … More Tank 432 (2016) – REVIEW

The Wailing (2016) – REVIEW

July 19, 2016

Fantasia (International Film Fest) has been premiering (or North American premiering) great genre films for a while now. I’ve never made it to the fest but I’ve excitedly awaited attendees’ tweets/reviews when the time comes each year. This year, I have a blog. And this year, I was accepted to review films from the … More The Wailing (2016) – REVIEW

The Hybrid (2016) – REVIEW

July 15, 2016

As with a surprising number of the films that I review here at NoRealDanger, The Hybrid (aka: Scintilla, which is a way better title if you’re asking me) was completely unknown to me until Netflix told me that I’d likely rate it over 4 stars. That type of estimate intrigues me every time. How have I … More The Hybrid (2016) – REVIEW

REVIEW – Swiss Army Man (2016)

July 13, 2016

I saw the trailer for Swiss Army Man a while back and I was immediately intrigued. Who wouldn’t be? It’s a movie about a castaway who finds a farting/talking/freshwater barfing corpse that he can use in all sorts of practical ways. But I was also a little reticent. How could this obviously extremely novel … More REVIEW – Swiss Army Man (2016)

The Neon Demon (2016) – REVIEW

July 5, 2016

Nicolas Winding Refn (NWR, as per his brand) is a bit of an enigma when it comes to creative output. His first feature, Pusher, is a fairly straight-forward – albeit very well made – crime drama. It was a commercial success in Denmark and spawned two sequels (the second of which stars Mads Mikkelsen). His … More The Neon Demon (2016) – REVIEW

The Editor (2014) – REVIEW

June 27, 2016

Astron 6 movies seem like the types of films that would divide horror fans. They’re super silly but super violent too. But I can’t think of a single instance of hearing/reading someone telling me that they hated one. Sure, they may not have loved it but there’s some fun to be had for everyone … More The Editor (2014) – REVIEW

Hannibal (TV) – REVIEW

June 13, 2016

I’ve been putting off writing about “Hannibal” for too long. Not just because I don’t typically write about television. In the case of “Hannibal”, I will gladly make an exception. No, I’ve been putting it off because I want to do it justice. I want to convey the reasons that I would write about … More Hannibal (TV) – REVIEW

They Look Like People (2015) – REVIEW

May 31, 2016

They Look Like People showed here in Chicago as part of the 2015 CIFF programming. I entertained thoughts of catching it but it was showing far away at a theater situated in an area that has no reasonably priced parking (can I write that off on my taxes?) and I didn’t have anyone to go … More They Look Like People (2015) – REVIEW

No Real Danger is a blog of my ramblings on the films that I watch/have watched/want to watch/etc. I will typically post (with irregular regularity) comma and parenthetical filled short-form entries. I plan to keep things positive, but I might grumble about something every once in a while. Horror is my “jam” but I may occasionally post about a non-horror movie. Similarly, I usually watch independent movies but not exclusively. Hell, I might even post about music. Who knows?
