Blue My Mind (2017) – Review

July 28, 2018

I’m continuing my coverage of Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2018 with the Swiss coming of age film, Blue My Mind. Enough chit – chat. Let’s get into it!   Mia is 15. She’s starting at a new school and she’s eager to get in with the cool kids. After a rocky start, they accept her … More Blue My Mind (2017) – Review

Sequence Break (2017) – REVIEW

July 28, 2017

I’m really cranking these Fantasia Int’l Film Fest reviews out! (by “cranking”, i mean that i’m way behind and scrambling to get movies watched and reviews written while also having a job and a family. what i’m saying is this: you’re welcome) Next up, Sequence Break!   Oz (Os?) repairs classic arcade games for a … More Sequence Break (2017) – REVIEW

Replace (2017) – REVIEW

July 20, 2017

Next up in my Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2017 coverage lineup is Replace from German-born director, Norbert Keil. (i know “German-born” doesn’t really convey any relevant info, but it beefs this intro up a bit)   Kira spends the night at her new boyfriend’s place and wakes up alone. She takes the less-than-subtle hint and … More Replace (2017) – REVIEW

The Void (2017) – REVIEW

May 26, 2017

Let me start this The Void review off with a highly politicized topic: global climate change. Yes, the nefarious “scientists” and “intelligent people” of the world used to call it global warming, but suddenly they want us to call it something different. Probably because they’re perpetrating some silver-tongued con game on the populace just to … More The Void (2017) – REVIEW

Rupture (2017) – REVIEW

April 27, 2017

The name Noomi Rapace holds a certain gravitas even for me, someone who’s only seen two of her films. For whatever reason, I think of her as an accomplished, top-tier actor. And, she may well be. But the strange thing is this: why do I think that? Sure, she was good in Prometheus, … More Rupture (2017) – REVIEW

Afflicted (2013) – REVIEW

December 26, 2016

I saw the trailer for Afflicted a long time ago. At the time, I wrote it off as another found footage, digital effects reel that I would get around to eventually. I figured it would be one of those movies that I wouldn’t necessarily hate, but I wouldn’t necessarily love either. So, I didn’t make … More Afflicted (2013) – REVIEW

The Similars (2016) – REVIEW

November 23, 2016

Isaac Ezban’s entry in the Mexico Barbaro anthology was my least favorite by a long shot. It was misogynistic, predictable, unfunny, had poor creature effects, and it used an annoying beat-up-old film filter effect that added nothing to the story and distracted the viewer. So, when I heard his latest, The Similars (Los Parecidos), was … More The Similars (2016) – REVIEW

Shelley (2016) – REVIEW

July 23, 2016

Next up in my Fantasia International Film Fest 2016 review spree – Shelley from director, Ali Abbasi. (i don’t know why i’m compelled to type the entire official Fantasia 2016 title. i guess i imagine that i have readers that aren’t familiar w/ it and they would be like, ‘they remade Disney’s Fantasia!?’, if i … More Shelley (2016) – REVIEW

In My Skin (2002) – REVIEW

March 30, 2016

Sticking with a body horror theme for this week, I got to thinking about some of the great (read: most disturbing) body horror films that may have slipped under the average (American) horror fan’s radar. Possibly because they didn’t get a wide release, didn’t get much buzz, featured subtitles (i know, i know, reading is … More In My Skin (2002) – REVIEW

REVIEW – Antiviral (2012)

March 29, 2016

Body horror. It’s a subgenre that is especially hard-hitting because we all (or at least most of us) have bodies and we would hate to see some crazy and/or painful shit happen to them. We like to think that we have some control over our bodies even though that control is illusory. (don’t believe … More REVIEW – Antiviral (2012)

Follow No Real Danger on WordPress.com
No Real Danger is a blog of my ramblings on the films that I watch/have watched/want to watch/etc. I will typically post (with irregular regularity) comma and parenthetical filled short-form entries. I plan to keep things positive, but I might grumble about something every once in a while. Horror is my “jam” but I may occasionally post about a non-horror movie. Similarly, I usually watch independent movies but not exclusively. Hell, I might even post about music. Who knows?
