I’ve seen several Reddit posts asking for users’ “scariest” movie recommendations. It seems that every one of these posts will inevitably include Noroi: The Curse. For the longest time, I thought that I had already seen it and thought that it was pretty good but not terrifying or anything. So, when I stumbled across it … More Noroi: The Curse (2005) – REVIEW
I avoided this one for a very long time after seeing the trailer for it. I thought it looked too DIY to be an effective creepy stalker story. If you’re not a fan of found footage, then this one isn’t going to be for you. I wouldn’t say that I’m not a fan, but the … More Be My Cat: A Film for Anne (2015) – REVIEW
If you read my Offseason review, you may recall that I said that I got it confused with another movie – Carnage Park – and thought that I had already seen it. Well, you’re not going to believe this, but I did it again! This time, the mix-up is probably more understandable. Rather than the … More Ghostwatch (1992) – REVIEW
Ya know… I keep coming back to this site sporadically and it’s kinda nice. I mean, I have surely lost the few followers I had and I feel zero pressure. It’s like a “there when I need it” outlet for discussing my hobby – watching horror movies. (is that a hobby? seems like a pretty … More The Deep House (2021) – REVIEW
I saw the trailer for Afflicted a long time ago. At the time, I wrote it off as another found footage, digital effects reel that I would get around to eventually. I figured it would be one of those movies that I wouldn’t necessarily hate, but I wouldn’t necessarily love either. So, I didn’t make … More Afflicted (2013) – REVIEW
It’s hard to believe it’s been over 41 years since The Blair Witch Project hit theaters (give or take a decade or so). And now we have a true sequel – Blair Witch. It’s first sequel, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, was forgettable despite being directed by Joe Berlinger, one of the best documentary … More Blair Witch (2016) – REVIEW
I’ve discussed some of the issues that I have with the overwhelming majority of found footage horror films before. They tend to have glaring logical and common sense flaws. They are typically edited into a clear narrative (by whom? the cops?). They often have sound effects and a soundtrack/score (FOUND footage?) And so on. There … More Lake Mungo (2008) – REVIEW
French. Found footage. Fantasia (International Film Fest 2016). That’s what I knew about Therapy going into it. Modern French horror can be pretty damn good. (see: Frontier(s), A L’interieur, Martyrs, Ils, Dans ma Peau, etc.) Granted, I either haven’t been attuned to the good stuff coming out of France in the last few years, or … More Therapy (2016) – REVIEW
I was once surveyed about films and movie rentals for Facets in Chicago. After I explained what I meant by “genre film” to the two college-aged kids doing the interviewing, they asked me why I enjoy those types of films. I gave them my (now famous) “no real danger” explanation. They pressed further, asking … More REVIEW – August Underground (2001)
The Wolfman recommended The Dirties to me as if I already knew what it was. So, I quickly played it off like I knew what he was talking about so I didn’t seem even more lame than I already seem. (‘oh. naw, dawg. i’ve been too busy doing cool stuff, bro. skateboardsing, sexting and…um…social media?) … More REVIEW – The Dirties (2013)
