Creep (2014) – REVIEW

October 5, 2015

Creep is a found footage film. I thought I should get that out of the way right off the bat. Love it or hate it, it seems like it’s here to stay. I could write a post or three just about found footage – why it’s used, when it’s done right,  and how it goes … More Creep (2014) – REVIEW

Demon (2015) – REVIEW

October 3, 2015

(Demon’s director, Marcin Wrona, died just as the film was set to debut in the U.S. I guess that’s just FYI, but I thought I should mention it.) Demon is a Polish ghost/possession film (though I’ve read that it may be associated with Israel too?) directed by the late Marcin Wrona, who previously directed The … More Demon (2015) – REVIEW

UNDERAPPRECIATED – Naboer (2005)

September 30, 2015

Naboer is a Norwegian film (or Swedish?) that I came across during a particularly deep foreign (non-U.S.) horror research rabbit hole. After having seen the movie, I would hesitate to call it horror. It’s horror in the same way Repulsion is horrific (with which it shares some tonal similarities). It features violence and psychological drama … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Naboer (2005)

REVIEW – Deathgasm (2015)

September 29, 2015

Deathgasm hits a high note (get it?) right from the opening credits. As metal assaults the viewer’s ears, the screen is covered in metal and mayhem themed doodles that animate gruesomely and/or hilariously. The little dude who shits out his own entrails is particularly gruesome/hilarious. As soon as I saw that, I texted The Wolfman … More REVIEW – Deathgasm (2015)

CLASSIC CUT – Blue Velvet (1986)

September 29, 2015

It looks like we Netflix instant users may lose a real gem on October 1st, 2015 – David Lynch’s Blue Velvet. I have to thank Sarah Jane for bringing (tweeting) this to my attention. I own the DVD of course, this is Blue Velvet we’re talking about. Nonetheless, learning that it is on its way … More CLASSIC CUT – Blue Velvet (1986)

Goodnight Mommy (2014) – REVIEW

September 28, 2015

Whenever I can, I like to go into a movie blind, knowing little to nothing about it. That’s how I went into Goodnight Mommy. The only thing I knew about it was that I’d read some positive tweets about it and that it is Australian. It turns out that I only knew half of what … More Goodnight Mommy (2014) – REVIEW

REVIEW – The Rover (2014)

September 23, 2015

The Rover is a bleak downer of an Australian film from the writer of Hesher, and it is fucking great. I guess that kind of spoils my review, but I’m sticking to it. Is it horror? Well, it’s violent. Let’s call it a violent drama that should appeal to horror fans. I put The Rover in my … More REVIEW – The Rover (2014)

UNDERAPPRECIATED – Anguish (1987)

September 21, 2015

Bigas Luna’s Anguish seems to have slipped under the radar for a lot of horror fans. I haven’t come across a Chicago screening of the film or even a request for one on social media. I’ve recommended it to several people but haven’t talked to anyone who has actually seen it. Maybe because it was a Spanish … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Anguish (1987)

Eaten Alive (1976) – VIDEO NASTIES – REVIEW

September 20, 2015

Tobe Hooper followed up The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (and, yes, that is how you write that title) with the sleazy proto-slasher Eaten Alive (aka Death Trap/Starlight Slaughter/Horror Hotel). The film was written by Hooper’s TCSM co-writer, Kim Henkel (who I once thought was a woman … More Eaten Alive (1976) – VIDEO NASTIES – REVIEW

UNDERAPPRECIATED – Killing Spree (1987)

September 18, 2015

If you know who Tim Ritter is, you most likely know him as the director of the video store horror shelf staple, Truth or Dare?: A Critical Madness. In the late 80s, the movie really set the junior high schools (now called middle schools) abuzz with whispers of late night cable viewings of the crazy … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Killing Spree (1987)

No Real Danger is a blog of my ramblings on the films that I watch/have watched/want to watch/etc. I will typically post (with irregular regularity) comma and parenthetical filled short-form entries. I plan to keep things positive, but I might grumble about something every once in a while. Horror is my “jam” but I may occasionally post about a non-horror movie. Similarly, I usually watch independent movies but not exclusively. Hell, I might even post about music. Who knows?
