6 Scanner Cop (1994) – Without Cronenberg writing or directing, this strange offshoot of the Scanners series lacks the creative vision of the auteur but delivers some good weirdness nonetheless. A solid straight to video effort with clever hallucinatory freakouts (and the requisite head bursts). 5 Evil Dead Burn (2026) – A brutally fun entry … More 31+ Micro-Reviews for October 2026
Who the fuck is Lee Cronin? That was my first thought when I saw the ads for this movie. I am a pretty big horror fan, but his name did not ring any bells. At the time, I didn’t really care. The film was getting mixed reviews and mummies are not particularly my thing. I … More Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (2026) – REVIEW
I knew nothing about The A-Frame before finding it in a “far-out sci-fi” category on Tubi. I watched the trailer and it was okay, so I decided to roll the dice. Sci-fi horror is a favorite sub-genre of mine, so I’m always on the lookout. I’m usually disappointed, but sometimes I find a gem. Does … More The A-Frame (2024) – REVIEW
I’m going to try to do another 31 full reviews (as well as my micro-reviews) this October. It was a fun challenge last year, so why not do it again? I’m watching at least 31 new-to-me horror movies and I’ll share what I thought about them here. I’m going to start with the Japanese remake … More Cube (2021) – REVIEW
I went in blind to Ozgood Perkins’ (Perkins’s?) Keeper for two reasons. 1. I knew it was from him so I knew I was going to see it and didn’t need any convincing from the marketing campaign. I’ve enjoyed all of his features up to this point. 2. I wanted absolutely zero spoilers. I know … More Keeper (2025) – REVIEW
The Terrifier films are divisive among horror fans (and the horror tourists who like them are insufferable). I happen to appreciate the gore effects and the creative kills. But I have a couple of issues with the first two. Namely that they were both poorly acted and the second was overlong (unnecessarily so since we’re … More Terrifier 3 (2024) – REVIEW
I did it, folks! Over 31 new-to-me horror films watched since Oct. 1st. This and 31 full reviews are just a couple of the perks of being unemployed! (laughter devolves into sobs) 44 Hell Hole (2024) – An American fracking operation in Serbia digs up a live man infected with an aggressive cephalopod-like parasite. I … More 31+ Micro-reviews for October 2025
I’m old. By the time Stine’s Fear Street series came out, I was deep into Stephen King. I was reading big boy horror with big boy scares (and even some sex scenes!). I didn’t have time for teen spookiness! My first real exposure to Stine was through my then girlfriend’s younger brother. He loved the … More R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead (2025) – REVIEW
I avoided this one for a very long time after seeing the trailer for it. I thought it looked too DIY to be an effective creepy stalker story. If you’re not a fan of found footage, then this one isn’t going to be for you. I wouldn’t say that I’m not a fan, but the … More Be My Cat: A Film for Anne (2015) – REVIEW
Since I liked co-directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’s Heretic, I decided to check out their earlier effort, Haunt. I’d read mixed things about it and knew it was about a haunted house, but that’s about it. Since I am watching as much horror as possible this month, I figured it’s a good time to … More Haunt (2019) – REVIEW
