In a Violent Nature (2024) – REVIEW

June 7, 2024

When I saw the trailer for In a Violent Nature, the opening shots of a hulking brute with decayed skin, reminded me immediately of Jason Voorhees. I thought it was going to be a new F13. It’s not. But… it is certainly inspired by and/or an homage to those films. Before you get too excited … More In a Violent Nature (2024) – REVIEW

Infinity Pool (2023) – REVIEW

March 26, 2024

At the time of writing this, Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool is on Hulu. If you – like me – find yourself endlessly scrolling through your queue and beyond looking for something that sounds right for your mood, maybe this will be the one that wins out some night. Is it right for your mood? Well, … More Infinity Pool (2023) – REVIEW

Stopmotion (2024) – REVIEW

March 26, 2024

I was kind of surprised to find that Stopmotion was playing major theater chains in Chicago. I’d seen the trailer and thought for sure the film would have either a very small run (maybe at Alamo or Music Box) or go straight to streaming. It’s certainly a niche film. I don’t see it gaining any … More Stopmotion (2024) – REVIEW

The Deep House (2021) – REVIEW

December 22, 2023

Ya know… I keep coming back to this site sporadically and it’s kinda nice. I mean, I have surely lost the few followers I had and I feel zero pressure. It’s like a “there when I need it” outlet for discussing my hobby – watching horror movies. (is that a hobby? seems like a pretty … More The Deep House (2021) – REVIEW

31+ October Micro-Reviews

October 20, 2023

43 (Bonus!) Don’t Kill It (2016) I read that this film is fast-paced and that’s exactly what I was looking for tonight. Were the internet strangers right? Mostly! The movie starts off strong with a string of brutal kills and then bogs down a little bit with story, but it’s back to the bloody action … More 31+ October Micro-Reviews

Brightburn (2019) – Review

May 23, 2019

I’ve been “gone” for a long time. At first it was because I was telling myself that I was putting that energy into writing a short story. Well, that certainly got started. I wrote a couple of pages even. But then I remembered that writing is hard. Not hard hard, like driving a truck for … More Brightburn (2019) – Review

The Witch in the Window (2018) – Review

August 10, 2018

One last (late) full review from my coverage of Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2018. It’s been a lot of fun to put my thoughts to the screen for you, dear reader. And I’m going out on a high note with The Witch in the Window, directed by half of the duo who directed YellowBrickRoad and … More The Witch in the Window (2018) – Review

The Nightshifter (2018) – Review

August 5, 2018

Another great Fantasia Int’l Film Festival has come and gone. If you didn’t make it to Montreal this year to catch some of the genre programming, know that you’re not alone. I too missed out corporeally. But that’s an easier pill to swallow for me since I was able to cover the fest remotely via … More The Nightshifter (2018) – Review

One Cut of the Dead (2017) – Review

August 1, 2018

Fantasia Int’l Film Festival is wrapping up but my reviews aren’t! Here’s one for the Japanese film, One Cut of the Dead. (Kamera o tomeru na) Read it why don’tcha?   A single cut, 30(ish) minute film about a crew shooting a zombie film that is beset by real zombies is the jumping off point … More One Cut of the Dead (2017) – Review

Knuckleball (2018) – Review

July 30, 2018

More Fantasia Int’l Film Festival 2018 coverage! I know! It’s so much! I’m so generous! Check this shit out! (my review of Knuckleball)   Henry’s mom and dad aren’t the model couple. It doesn’t seem like they like each other at all. Maybe that’s why dad is using this trip back to mom’s … More Knuckleball (2018) – Review

No Real Danger is a blog of my ramblings on the films that I watch/have watched/want to watch/etc. I will typically post (with irregular regularity) comma and parenthetical filled short-form entries. I plan to keep things positive, but I might grumble about something every once in a while. Horror is my “jam” but I may occasionally post about a non-horror movie. Similarly, I usually watch independent movies but not exclusively. Hell, I might even post about music. Who knows?
