(Demon’s director, Marcin Wrona, died just as the film was set to debut in the U.S. I guess that’s just FYI, but I thought I should mention it.) Demon is a Polish ghost/possession film (though I’ve read that it may be associated with Israel too?) directed by the late Marcin Wrona, who previously directed The … More Demon (2015) – REVIEW
Deathgasm hits a high note (get it?) right from the opening credits. As metal assaults the viewer’s ears, the screen is covered in metal and mayhem themed doodles that animate gruesomely and/or hilariously. The little dude who shits out his own entrails is particularly gruesome/hilarious. As soon as I saw that, I texted The Wolfman … More REVIEW – Deathgasm (2015)
Whenever I can, I like to go into a movie blind, knowing little to nothing about it. That’s how I went into Goodnight Mommy. The only thing I knew about it was that I’d read some positive tweets about it and that it is Australian. It turns out that I only knew half of what … More Goodnight Mommy (2014) – REVIEW
Bigas Luna’s Anguish seems to have slipped under the radar for a lot of horror fans. I haven’t come across a Chicago screening of the film or even a request for one on social media. I’ve recommended it to several people but haven’t talked to anyone who has actually seen it. Maybe because it was a Spanish … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Anguish (1987)
Tobe Hooper followed up The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (and, yes, that is how you write that title) with the sleazy proto-slasher Eaten Alive (aka Death Trap/Starlight Slaughter/Horror Hotel). The film was written by Hooper’s TCSM co-writer, Kim Henkel (who I once thought was a woman … More Eaten Alive (1976) – VIDEO NASTIES – REVIEW
If you know who Tim Ritter is, you most likely know him as the director of the video store horror shelf staple, Truth or Dare?: A Critical Madness. In the late 80s, the movie really set the junior high schools (now called middle schools) abuzz with whispers of late night cable viewings of the crazy … More UNDERAPPRECIATED – Killing Spree (1987)
The Pack is an Australian man-vs-nature/seige film from director, Nick Robertson. According to IMDB, this is Robertson’s first feature film. As such, it is a solid, tension packed (PACKed!) little film with decent turns from a spare cast. I say, “as such”, because it is not without its problems. Am I making assumptions about the … More The Pack (2015) – REVIEW
For all of my talk of “rambling” about horror movies, I’ve done very little of that since I started this site a little over a week ago. Well, my friends (and people who accidentally clicked here), that’s all about to change! STRAP IN! I’m going to kick off my ramblings with a few movies that have a … More RAMBLING – Movie Nostalgia
Scarewaves is an anthology film from ultra-low budget DIY filmmaker, Henrique Couto. I saw the Chicago premiere of the film at Chicago Filmmakers – another event organized by the Jason Coffman. Henrique (pronounced: Henrick) was on hand to introduce the film … More REVIEW – Scarewaves (2015)
I saw Dude Bro Party Massacre III at Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival in Rosemont. Now, before we get too far into this thing – If you saw the name of this movie and thought, “What kind of shitty name is that?!”, just move along. … More Dude Bro Party Massacre III (2015) – REVIEW
